Mary C. DeLucia RNC, CNP is a Certified Nurse Practitioner, with more than 40 years of experience in gynecology, prenatal care, pregnancy and delivery. She has been a certified Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner for 28 years.
Mary is proud of her military service as a Colonel of the United States Air Force, from which she retired after 22 years of dedicated service to our country. Mary’s areas of medical interest and specialty include evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of abnormal pap smears and HPV test results.
Mary DeLucia and her husband Frank have been married for 40 years and are the parents of three sons, and the grandparents of seven wonderful grandchildren. They enjoy spending their free time at their lovely future retirement property in Holland, Michigan.

What is a Nurse Practitioner?
The role of Nurse Practitioner – or “NP” – was created more than 50 years ago to meet the growing demand for high quality medical care in the United States. At AHA OBGYN in Dearborn and Lincoln Park, we have two Nurse Practitioners – each with more than 40 years of obstetric and gynecological experience – who support Dr. Bobbie in offering our patients the highest standard of care.
Both of our Nurse Practitioners, Mary DeLucia and Jeanne Gray, have the designation “RNC, CNP” after their names. Many people wonder what this means. “RNC” stands for Registered Nurse, Certified. A regular RN has obtained a medical degree that takes two to four years. However, an RNC has obtained specialized training and taken additional exams that demonstrate their specific proficiency in their area of practice.
Mary DeLucia has both a Bachelor of Nursing degree from Mercy College of Detroit, and a Master of Nursing degree from University of Michigan. This represents more than six years of higher medical education for Nurse Mary DeLucia. Both Mary DeLucia and Jeanne Gray are also “Certified Nurse Practitioners” or “CNPs” – meaning that they have advanced education and training in their area of specialization, which is women’s health, gynecology and obstetrics.
What can a Nurse Practitioner do?
A nurse practitioner has the training and authority to examine and assess patients, diagnose conditions, order diagnostic tests, provide treatments, and prescribe certain prescriptions. Having two highly experienced NPs available, like Mary DeLucia and Jeanne Gray, ensures that AHA OBGYN patients always have access to the care they need – even when Dr. Bobbie is busy delivering a baby or performing surgery!
Why see a Nurse Practitioner?
Many studies have documented the advantages of seeing a specialized Nurse Practitioner like Mary DeLucia, RNC, CNP. To begin with, there is a great deal of evidence that patients who see a Nurse Practitioner have higher satisfaction with their medical care, less ER visits, and fewer preventable hospitalizations readmissions, when compared to patients who only see doctors.
Keep in mind that Nurse Practitioners do not replace doctors! Rather, NPs work hand-in-hand with the physician, so that the patient can receive more in-depth and personalized medical care. So, in effect, patients are receiving the benefit of two experienced medical care givers, rather than just one.
It is no secret that even the best and most caring doctors are extremely busy and often are stretched very thin when they have other urgent medical matters or emergencies to which they must attend! But Nurse Practitioners generally have a great deal more time available to listen to patients’ concerns, understand their unique medical issues, and then develop a personalized relationship with them.
